Hello,
How many thousand miles air filter need to be replace on ML550?
Replace ML550 is very easy, I'd like to do myself.
Please post your feedback,
Thank you very much
Can be done yearly, but conditions of where you drive will tell you if you need to do it more often, lots of dust, construction, leaves, etc will make it necessary to replace more often.
Pull them out, look at them, or should I say through them, if you can still see some sunlight they might be OK, but if dark and dusty black/grey etc change them
I like to do mine just after spring, so April/May that way they are good all summer and winter, allows the car to breath
Dealer charge $125 for 2 airfilters and labor, but I have to make appointment for service, take about 2/3 hrs either drop off or wait. I don't have time, do at home take about 30/45 mins.
Anyone know where to order filters online?
What brands is works best for MB?
Thank you.

I have an 07 ML 320 CDI and like it but it's very tight under the hood. I need to change the air filter and it appears there isn't enough room to get a wrench on the 4 star screws on each filter box. Anyone has experience with changing the filters? Same for cabin air.
Thanks

According to Mercedes air filter change on the diesel requires computer reset using dealer STAR system.

Change the fuel filter while you are in there. Air filter access is tight check out Benzworld forum for info. lkchris is correct that star diagnostics is recommended to teach the ECU that a new filter is in to adjust the air intake thru the MAF. Although many DIY folks just change the filters.

Thanks: understand the reprogram comment. Have you change your filters? How did you do it? I plan to change the fuel filter which is just in front of the turbo. It appears that both filter boxes have to be completely removed (V-6) unless MB has a special tool to remove the 4 star screws holding each filter cover.

Thanks. I am trying benzworld but no "how to" info yet. Much of what MB folks put-out is designed to get you to go back to their service folks. There are many shortcuts they use but DIY's get it through forums or trial & error. I have found this with SBC and retractable mirrors recently.

You have to remove the long gasket that runs along the top of the firewall. Then take off the the engine cover , then unbolt the plates of the firewall nearest to the airboxes. This should take about 10 minutes tops. After you complete those steps you will have plenty of room to remove the boxes.
Here are 2 videos that may help. NOTE: these currently do not play for me today....maybe YouTube is down? Not sure BUT, I have viewed them before and I think they are pretty helpful:
Mandino: Thanks. That's a very good video. But my 07 ML is a 320 CDI. The air filters are located on each side of the engine (V6 diesel). It sure is easy to replace filters on the 350. The CDI engine cover covers the entire engine. Removing it exposes the whole engine topside.

If you need help ...PM me and I can talk you through it this weekend...(preferably Sunday ) .
I also have a 2007 ML320. The Diesel air filter replacement is a time consuming effort of about 1.5 hours. It is no easy way to do it and the best tip I can give is to install the intake first and then move the air filter boxes onto the rubber end of the intake.
After the first time, I used K&N air filters because of price and I can get a few more thousand miles between intervals.

Yes it is, and Mercedes specifications are that ONLY the type clamps used (CLIC) are acceptable and that these are NOT reused but always replaced with new ones. And it takes a special tool to remove/install them. Understand that "specification" is NOT the same as "recommendation."
replaced my own filters as the dealer cost was $220.00 plus tax. (CDN).
Took about 1. 5 hrs and felt good to finish the job myself after years of no garage work. This YOU TUBE video will guide you through it.
Replaced with K&N but need to reset as the milaege did not change. the old filters were so clogged with bees and dragon flies i could hardly see the mesh!
2006 ML320 Cdi Cabin Pollen Filter change (right hand drive)
Might be an old post subject but I just changed the cabin Pollen Air filter on my 2006 ML320 CDi. Much easier way than going in thru glove box. Open up the bonnet - at passenger side rear corner of engine bay ( in RH Drive vehicles) there is the cabin air inlet duct held in by two clips . Flip these clips up with a screwdriver and the front housing lifts up and out (there are three locating tabs at bottom of cover) You can then see the two filter elements laying flat inside the housing. You can squeeze these filters out thru the slot in the housing and install two new ones ( watch for the flow direction arrows on the filter elements) That's it ! refit the housing in to the lower tabs and clip the two top clips in place - job done. It took me 5 minutes.. The pack of 2 filters by Wesfil cost A$29.28 from jpl_autoparts on Ebay Australia. I just purchased the vehicle - see how dirty the old filter were in the "old & new" photo.. Musty smell now gone from cabin
