While waiting for the parts, jackup the truck on the driver's side jacking point just far enough that you can lay on your back. And remove the under eng. guard starting with the ends and work inward. Put the cover and bolts aside and do not reinstall.
If you already have a large drain pan, remove the oil filler cap , locate the drain bolt (do not lose the washer) on the oil pan and drain the oil. Then lower the jack and let it drain completely and tighten bolt.
Then when you receive the parts, remove the oil filter using the removal tool. Hold the filter down as shown in the PDF and with the other hand push the filter down and twist slightly at the same time. Then replace the o-rings, disregard the extra one. Reinstall filter and tighten properly.
Pour in 8 3/4 qts. using funnel.
You should also order this dipstick.

There is no dipstick for the trans. because there is nowhere to check it.

I really appreciate your help and patience again Maj. Dundeen !!
This is the image of my instrument cluster on the engine oil level. I assume the dealership put the appropriate amount of engine oil when serviced. I added 4 1/2 qts of the transmission oil on the top of it. I am now wondering how this engine oil level shows like the image below. I am sure i put the transmission fluid into the engine oil tube you described earlier.

Once again, the tube with the red plug is the tube for the eng. oil dipstick. And once again there is no dipstick for the trans. fluid.
Why do I have to repeat myself.
Did you order all the parts?

Hi there sorry for jumping into this thread.
I am hoping you are able to help. I have a 2010 ML 350 CDi - will these instructions apply or is it different?
I am wanting to change the trans fluid. I have drained it, but now am trying to attempt to refill it - proving to be a bit tricky.
