2011 ML350: programming integrated garage door opener

Ok anyone know what I'm doing wrong...I'm following everything the manual says by clearing the memory first. The I've tried holding the remote every which way and at different angles, the light flashes quickly which means the rear-view mirror remote on the car has learnt the code. But it never opens the garage door for me.
Anyone get this to work?

It appears that your garage door has rolling codes, and thus you may have to push the learn button on the overhead garage unit then push the button on the rear view mirror. These steps should be outlined in the manual towards the end of the programming the integrated garage door opener section. This works for both of my 2007s. Hope that this helps.

With new door openers its a 2 step process. First program your Ml with your handheld as normal. Then follow the step to snyc with your opener. That involves pushing the learn button on the opener. The instructions will be in your manual and posted right beside the learn button on your opener. The main thing is to make sure your ML button has been programmed to one of the handheld openers first, which it sounds like you have done.

yep, the 2 step process is what fooled me. Do it as Vernl explained and you will have no problems.

My garage door opener has lights at the front and back of the motor. The "learn" button is under the frosted plastic cover on the back of the motor.

My garage door opener did have a "learn" button, once I knew this the entire procedure to program the car took ~3 mins....SUPER FAST...it's got a super long range as well, I hit the button when I was at the corner of our street and when I got to the house the garage door was already opening. SWEEEEET!!!
