Cartronics VideoKey

Does anyone have a Cartronics VideoKey hooked in their ML and if so how do they like it and was it hard to put in.

@Cartronics, I was taking a look at your site and there are some very interesting items.

What I'm most interested in is a way to watch DVD videos on my center console screen. I have a 2008 ML350 with the P1 package (DVD based navigation, separate CD player, no DVD video capability, no SD slot, iPOD compatibility).

Just as important as watching DVD videos is being able to watch Divx/Xvid encoded files. I figure the easiest and most cost-effective method to achieve this is to replace the CD player for a drive which can play the media I like.

Can you let me know what I need and associated costs? I'm fairly handy with electronics but is this something best left to professionals?

Thanks,
E

The only reasonable way to do this, would be to install our Video In Motion module. This gives you 2 video inputs and 1 backup camera input. Which inputs you use are all optional. Then provide whatever video source you want (I watch all mine from an iPod/iPhone/iPad). You can check the site for the Video In Motion (backup camera) section for the cost of the module only (can be purchased at a discounted price with a camera as a kit).

If I'm reading the description for the VIM/BC correctly, it will work even if you have a factory backup camera installed. Essentially all it does is provide 2 additional video inputs to the factory screen.

My question is what type of inputs are the other two? Is there an input that will read from a USB flash drive or will the inputs only accept video from an output device like an iPOD?

Also, I read mention of a VideoKey DVD Unlock. Is this compatible with the DVD based navigation system?

Thanks,
E

On the VIM, the inputs are all regular composite video (yellow RCA plug). So really anything that provides video out can be plugged into it.
Typical uses that we see are:
Front Camera
Rear Camera
FLiR Night Vision
iPod Video
Rear Seat Entertainment Video up front
XBox
HDTV
DVD Changer

The VideoKey removes any "lockout" function that the COMAND has when going from Park to Drive. So if your car can play a DVD now while in Park... it will extend that ability to while moving too.

Sound does not come through the VIM... Sound comes through the Aux or iTronic. The VIM is video only because video travels JUST through the LCD interface... audio travels JUST on the M.O.S.T. fiber optic ring. We hook them together when doing iPod video, for instance.
