How is that BS? While it may make updates more difficult, it will be far faster than a dvd. Updates could also be easier since they could be sent via sirius or mbrace. Either our 2011 has no dvd as well or it was already inserted by the dealership when we picked it up.
I think this is why they might give us BS. Every car I got with navigation has had the map disk included.
I just checked navtaq and there is no update available there as well.
my 2009 c350 did not come with a nav cd/dvd, it was hard drive based, and to do an update it has to go back to the dealership to be done
so it could be the same for your 2011
