Recent Road Trip Results - ML320 BlueTec
I recently took a little trip from So. Cal to Park City, Utah and back. Somewhere along the way when I was bored I took a shot of the mileage. The ML did fine on the trip with the exception of one bothersome event. I was driving along and suddenly the fuel gauge went from half tank down to empty, instantaneously. It was quite strange. After a while it started creeping up to 1/8th of a tank and then the low fuel light came on. I knew I had half a tank yet the instrument went dead. After I convinced myself the gauge had a hiccup, I eventually stopped and filled up and the gauge went back to normal. Not quite sure what happened, I was wondering if the sudden elevation changes had anything to do with it. Anyway, just thought I'd share as I get lots of useful information off this board

fuel guage
Just happened to me last week. I have 28kmiles on an 09 ML 320 bluetec. On vacation when it reached 1/2 full it suddenly fell to empty. Stopped and filled up and not a problem since. I am guessing a faulty sensor. If you hear anything definite let me know! Bill

I thought that if I mentioned the mysterious fuel gauge issue someone else might have experienced it as well. Thanks for letting me know. Next time I take it in for maintenance or service I will have them check the computer to see if any codes were thrown. I don't think it warrants a separate trip as it seems to working OK now. As far as mileage goes, in the 23K miles that is on the vehicle the overall average is about 23.5 mpg. This particular mileage run was all highway averaging 67 mph as indicated.
