ML W164 RESTYLING
ML w164 daytime running ligths

Hi.
I'm new here. my name is Mario and I'm from Spain
This is my car.

I want to install daytime running lights on my car. I've been asking MB dealer and they told me there is nothing for ML AMG bumper

I wonder if you know something about it or if it could be possible to install MB E-class W212 straight or curve ("L" shaped) lights

thanks

Mario,

I have a similar looking car, ML550, in Black. I use the DRL that are installed in the car. They are pretty good, and nice looking. You can enable/disable them with the steering wheel buttons.

Enjoy your new car.

Hi Mario,

You might wanna consider changing your front bumper to the 2011 Sport Edition with original DRL which can be turned off/on on the instrument cluster menu.

Those are not pictures of my car.
I am located on the side of the world in Singapore.
My ML300 was assembled in the Alabama factory late Feb '11 and delivered to me on 23rd Jul '11
Probably your local MB dealer should be able to change the bumper and retrofit the DRL for you as all these are original parts from MB.
Here are some pictures of my actual car.

DON'T CHANGE THAT BUMPER! Any replacement bumper will not look anywhere near as good as the AMG one you have!

When you say you want to "install" DRLs, do you mean you want the LED strip lights that come on the new models? Or do you just mean you want to have your lights come on automatically with the engine? If the latter, your dealer can do that in about two minutes with his computer. If you want to physically install LEDs, I can't help.

On the picture there are 2 sets of DRLs, only the lower set is from Piecha, the one integrated in the bumber is the factory DRL. Piecha claims that their new set of DRL can be mounted and fixed to the lower part of the bumper and there is no modification needed.

How about changing the fog lights for the round type DRLs?

Don't touch the car, leave it alone. The bumper just does NOT have the space to install DRL's.

You could however, wire the fog lights to come on with the DRL's.

There is a chance that you don't even need to re-wire them, but simply enable DRL through SDS and they might behave like DRLs. I will have to ask a friend to confirm that..., but theoretically it should be possible.

And yea: Don't touch (or swap) the AMG bumper. It's perfect the way it is!

Absolutely, but finding someone with SDS in Developer Mode is way too difficult. Also, given that very few people have it and know much about it, it would be a trial and error kind of thing. I plan on buying one very soon so I will be sure to make some DIYs.

Has anyone ever swapped their pre '11 ML350 corner illuminating fogs with these '11 LED strips? Would it be a direct swap? Thx
