Flat tire renders ML grounded for the weekend...again...
So, I was parallel parking and the front wheel went into a pretty nasty pothole...of course...the tire went completely flat. Bad news was I had my 6 yr old and 4 month old in the car...the good news is I was 2 blocks from home and drove it...
This is the second time in 4 months that the tires have suffered an impact (in neither case what I would consider serious given the speed) and the ML has been grounded. Now it sits in my driveway, I have to call roadside who will eventually tow it to the dealership who will in turn have to order the tire...which will take a day or 2. I could put the snow on, but of course, no jack in the car
This to me is a major pain and a serious safety concern. I have had 2 flats in 4 months (vs. 2 flats in 15 years...both of which were repaired by me and the jack)
MB really dropped the ball on this. I travel a lot with family and clients and this makes me really reconsider this purchase.
Ideas?

Yup...it was pretty nasty and the way and speed I went in the weight of the entire truck came down on the edge of the hole. Not good...but still...its a truck for heaven's sake...I sure wouldn't use any of the fancy Off-Road programs as these tires are more sensitive than the 255/35-18 on my old C350.
Turns out there is a jack and a wrench, along with the useless pump and sealant.
This is a big flaw...very unimpressed.

Dont you guys have mobile tire replacement people in Toronto? If not, someone should be starting that business.
I took out a tyre on my ML on Thursday morning (ML63, so big fat tyre), and it was replaced in the afternoon in the work car-park.
(I took a chunk out of the sidewall on a curb in the car park and decided it was not going to be good for the 70mph motorway journey that evening ..)

Dont believe you are blaming a flat on MB. Its your own fault for driving into the pot hole. Why didnt you call roadside from the spot where it happened? Driving 2 blocks insured that the tire was certainly ruined.

You are correct. However MB did not make the tires. Everyone I know who has had one with runflats has removed them. I for one would never own a vehicle with those things. He apparently did not learn the first time he had a problem. I cancelled an order for a new Corvette when the dealer who had previously agreed to swap the std runflats for conventional tires renigged on his promise. Car had already been built and was on its way to the dealers. What he found out was that the runflats he was to remove were not salable as everyone who buys one of those had changed them out.

I am not blaming MB for the flat...I am blaming myself....
I am blaming MB for putting crap tires with sidewalls incapable of impacts on a 2 ton vehicle.
I am also blaming MB equipping a vehicle that is useless when you get a flat

I was hunting in NB and the crap Nexen tire the dealer supplied with my used G500 was cut on a gravel road first day out.
They forgot to give me the keys to the spare carrier. So I called MB and the nearest Roadside Assistance was 374 miles away! It was Monday they could be there Wednesday.
I was on a rural road not in the woods. Taurus's and Volvos were going up and down it.
Glad Lieb got canned.
