What Do You Think MB Does With Old Front Diff ?
Since MB doesn't rebuild/repair front diffs, anybody know what happens to the old front diff case ? Do they send it out to be sold as rebuilt ? If they're your parts shouldn't you at least get a $500 core charge if they do? They're charging you over $3000 for a replacement. Does anybody know; is that for a rebuild or an all new front diff assembly ?
Could a MB tech dish on this one.

That is an excellent question, and I agree with you on the core charge.
By the way, see my thread below.

Question is valid though. Does MB give you a core rebate if they sell your parts?
Question 2 is what are they replacing? All new or rebuilt? This is more a matter of pricing than new or used. $3000 is a lot for used.
Also all major Benz drivetrain replacements do rebuilds and offer core charge rebates so I'm at a loss to figure this out.

If the part is replaced under warranty, the old part is the property of MB and will either: 1) be returned for forensic analysis or 2) scrapped.
If the part replaced was not warranty, then the dealership places the old part in the dumpster for haul away or as scrap metal. If a core has value and the dealership is reimbursed for the core, then the core "charge" is refunded to the customer... this is standard industry practice.
The service advisor should have discussed this with you at the time of repair. If you have any question (if the part is new vs. re-manufactured...), just ask. Also, remember that, just because a part is re-manufactured, does not mean that the core has value - many parts have readily available cores that diminish the value of your core to the point that no money is paid for the old part.
