2009 ML350 low beam headlamp

Got a 2009 ML350 recently and noticed the low beam headlamps shine only a short distance compared to other vehicles. They cover only about 50-60 ft and I can see both headlampspointing about 30 degrees to the right based on the illumination pattern. Compared to my other cars, driving in the ML350 at night feel unsafe, especially on the highway. Is it normal? They are regular non-HID and non-Xenon headlamps.

Sounds like they need adjustment. They may not be as good as BiXenons, but they are equal to most other cars.

Dealer checked it and said they are within the MB specs. He also said this is the third time he had ML owners complain to him about the headlamp on the ML.

That means either you or your dealer are mistaken. Take to an independent mechanic and get it checked again. It should only cost a few dollars and give you peace of mind. LOL

The lights do have a very defined angle that sends more light ahead on the right side of the beam spread than the left. This may be what you are perceiving as angled to the right. Pull up to a wall or something with your low beams on and you'll see the change in the pattern. This is by design to keep the beam out of the other lane but give you more light in your lane.

take a phillips screwdriver and go out at night and re-aim them.

If you want more light, go buy the silver or goldstar lights at your local parts store.

Thanks for the suggestion. I re-aim them and they are much better now and I feel safer.

Angry Headlight

Stock headlights on this SUV are sad.

I may try HID in future.

I agree.. I had the Silverstars in the 2011 and they were much better than stock.

I recently put the Silverstar Ultras in the 2012 and they are much, much better than stock and brighter than the Silverstars..

Either way, it will be a much noticable improvement over stock.
