Filling AdBlue
Then cut a slit on the base of the bottle cap (Blue top) to enable you to remove the top.
Now you can refill the 1/2gal bottle from a bulk DEF container and use it to refill the tank without any spillage.
It's very easy and fast and a lot cheaper than getting the dealer to refill your DEF tank.

Pretty comprehensive response DC-IT. Thanks a lot for taking the time.
BTW, your ML is a 2012 (W166) so the AdBlue refill is not in the same location as the W164. It's beside the fuel refill intake which is more convenient.
How's your W166 BT? Does it have the slight bucking/hesitation as some are experiencing over at the W166 forum?
I am considering a W166 BT when my lease is up in mid 2014.
Cheers.
I'm sure it will become much clearer about where to make the slit below the blue cap once I have the bottle in hand, but no leaks, right?
This will then let you unscrew the blue cap from the bottle so you can refill it from the bulk DEF.
So far no leaks when I refill.
It's even better for your W166 as the refill is on the outside of the vehicle.
In my W164 it's inside the trunk so any spills would be messy!
