ML 320 CDI power

I have had a problem with what appears to be an inability of the turbo to kick in. This happened on cold days and went away when the car stopped and allowed to heat stabilized.
Since the weather has warmed up, it has not happened. The dealer had no TSB on this.
A friends GL 320 CDI has experienced this even in warm weather.
Any ideas? Scary when there is no power.

DId you get a check engine light? Mine did the same thing, you were actually experiencing limp home mode. The revs were limited to 2500RPMs and faster upshifts. Mine pitched an EGR valve code only once of the 3 times it occured. It would appear that the EGR valve is gummed up and the excessive cold causes it to stick closed. Mine is in for other service now and I asked them to look at that for me. I will update what they find (probably nothing now)

Now this is happening in warm weather. Engine will not go above 3000RPM in morning with very low power. After driving 10-15 miles and parking for 3-4 hours, everything returns to normal. EGR, fuel filter or other sensor? Afraid it's going into dealer.
Very vexing. No check engine light.

I think you are going to have to bite the bullet. Do you have a dealers nearby that seem more reputable than others? Or a Mercedes Specialist Independent garage. I think they are going to have to drive it with the StarTac plugged in and check the drive sequence when cold. Let us know how you make out.

Purchased my W164 from a Ford dealer with the CEL on, but 5000 miles and 3 months remaining on the original warranty. 6 trips to the M-B dealer with at least that many CEL's. New AdBlue injector. Drove half way across Pennsylvania in limp home mode pulling a trailer on a Sunday. Was afraid to turn the truck off for fear it would not restart and while I was the slowest vehicle on the road it was still moving and not coughing, spitting, or running rough. And no CEL. Next morning it was as if nothing had ever happened. Got home and dealer couldn't find anything wrong. One of the next CEL's got a new NOx sensor. And finally CEL at 49,500 and only 6 miles after the dealer cleared a CEL the order was given to put the ace mechanic on the job to find the real problem and not just replace parts the Star diagnostic program instructed.

Ultimately a wiring problem was found somewhere under the back seat or in the rear trunk area.

Based on the elapsed time on the trip computer it didn't take any longer to find the short than to do any of the previous "repairs". About 2 hours.
