2009 ML320 Bluetec dead this morning
I have owned this vehicle for 2 months. No problems until today. I went to start the engine and when I turned the key to on, the instrument cluster started flashing and nothing else would happen. Engine will not crank. When I turn it back off and take the key out, there is a "flashing" noise and the 4 way flasher red triangle pulses. Door will not lock, tail gate will not open.
I had to go to work this morning so I got in another car and left it. It was still making the noise when I left, although it was not as loud.
When I pulled in my garage shut the car off last evening I noticed a similar pulsing sound that the car was making after I shut it off. I also noticed a "hot" smell in the garage.
Any ideas on what's up?

Not sure what the problem could be, but I would at least disconnect the battery because at least that should help stop whatever is running. Then, after a few minutes, reconnect the battery. I'm not saying this will fix the problem, but hopefully it'll prevent possibly something else from going wrong.

I'd like to push the car out of my garage. With electronic shift, how the heck do I get it into neutral to make it roll? I guess I need to read the manual....

I called MB Roadside Assistance. They have had the car towed to the dealer where I assume it will get sorted out. FYI they had to hook a hot box to the battery to get it to go into neutral.

I have owned this particular vehicle for only 2 months. Until Saturday AM, there has been absolutely no issues with starting or battery. I do not know the battery age. It may perhaps be the original. I'm awaiting the diagnosis from the dealer's shop.
I'm really disappointed by the childish behavior on this thread. I had mistakenly assumed that this was a serious forum, with mature constructive participation. Sad to see the infiltration of internet ******* that have nothing better to do, and nothing substantive to contribute. Perhaps the selection of available animations and smiley faces should have been a clue as to the culture.

I am sorry that I popped in a joke to you seaeric, I should have noted you are a new poster. We do try and give a serious answer when we can.
As it so happens, this same question about selecting neutral has been posed before with the only recommendation that I have seen previouslyis to remove the tailshafts. And I understand that is not an easy thing to do.
But I am glad to see there is another method as used by the tow truck.

The problem was caused by a shorted out battery. New battery installed and good to go. Car is still under the original warranty so there was no cost to me.

So here I am again - 26 months later. Same problem. Upon attempted start, dash flashes and then all dead. I popped the hood and attached a charger to the jump start terminals. After a few hours charging at 10 amps it started normally. So now what? Why would a 2 yr old battery fail suddenly? There was no clue that this was coming at all. Car is still under a CPO so I guess I call the dealer in the morning, or call Mercedes Roadside and have them check/replace the 2 yr old battery under warranty?
