2010 ML350- Should I purchase MB extended limited warranty?

Hey guys, my factory warranty is coming to an end in a few weeks and I was quoted $2,899 for an additional 3 years of warranty. It is the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty so I don't think it's some unreliable third party warranty.. is it?

Do you guys think it's worth the three grand or should I simply set aside the three grand and pay for repairs out of pocket? The car has only 25,000 miles at the moment.

Thanks.

It does not take long to eat up $3k fixing these. I have never failed to get my money back out of a warranty. Just my 2 cents. If you can afford it, why not.

I did. Paid a bit more than you quote but you don't say if yours is gas or diesel. I'm under the impression the extended warranty costs more on diesel.

OTOH if you consider the odds of having to have a $6000 repair is greater than 2:1 then perhaps you shouldn't. Obviously M-B believes your warranty will cost them less than $3k.

In my case the last 3 months of my original warranty, my first 3 months of M-B ownership, found me at the dealer's service entrance every week or two before my problem was fixed at 49,500 miles (ultimately it was a bad electrical connection). But then I didn't trust it was truly fixed and bought the extension. And haven't seen the dealer since.

So, where do our MBs fall, reliable or not so reliable? We can have our share of issues. I think the price you've been quoted is reasonable and I for one would take it.

Also, note in the CR article it discourages extended warranties because of high commission rates, overlapping with factory warranty and rolling extended warranty into the total financed - making them more expensive that necessary and or even unnecessary (overlapping coverage).

You've already avoided the pitfalls mentioned...
