Extended Warranty - pricing & comment - ML350

I am looking into purchase the ML350 2014. Have anyone have purchase the extended warranty.

1) What is the pricing on extended 1/2/3/4 extra years on top of original warranty.
2) Best time to purchase it. Was it in 30 days better or during the time on financing with dealer.
3) Will other company offer better than MB offer?

Thank you in advance.

I personally just bought a 2010 ML350 4matic and I have USAA insurance. They offer a extended mechanical warranty that covers everything except wear and tear. They offer a 12 month and 36 month plan. For 12 months its $2000 and 36 its $4000. Just like MB they have no deductible for repairs. Thinking about going with it. Good luck on your search.

$4K for 36 month aftermarket extended warranty?

Ouch. That sounds really high on a midline model.

Check with some of the MB dealers mentioned elsewhere on this site. I think you can do much better with the MB ELW.

I personally bought an after-market warranty and it sucks.I would never tried to buy such useless contract. If you want to buy,my recommendation is go with the dealer`s as when it comes down to the coverage,it usually saves you big money for these expensive toys.

I have got MB extended warranties for each of my MB vehicles and never regretted it. For ml 1999 ML, MB paid it back many times over.

For my latest ML 550 2010 I got a 7yr/100,000 mile MB CPO Extended warranty for $3030 (list $5,047) from Travis Eastman at MB Elmbrook, WI. That's around a 40% discount to list! No deductible, MB parts/labor from any dealer, pretty much like factory except for my 2008 S550 the CPO warranty was one of the last to include the Airmatic shocks.

Travis has left but apparently his replacement has picked up the business.

Jeffrey (Jeff), business manager

An additional benefit for getting the warranty from Wisconsin is that in that state they do not decrease the warranty value for claims made if you cancel and get a pro-rated refund before the warranty term is complete.

For the OP, after I got my ML 320 in 1999, a month or two later I asked my selling dealer to match the warranty price from a dealer in another state and they did.
I would see how good a deal you can negotiate with the purchase, but I believe you can add the MB Extended Limited Warranty (ELW) anytime before the 4yr/50k warranty expires - you better check that. I know I got my MB CPO ELW just before the ML550 turned 50k miles.
Let us know what you decide to do.

I bought the aftermarket with my last 3 vehicles and 2 times I was burned. On my wifes Expedition I bought it and it didnt cover certain things. On my BMW I bought one and it only covered labor up to $85. I live in NY labor cost start @ about $115 on avg. It also didnt want to cover certain things that the dealer said NEEDED to be done. Had to go through a lot of fighting to get the work done and still have to come out of pocket with a nice chunk of change.

Not sure what you mean by "aftermarket", but the MB warranties have been excellent in my experience and I have never been asked to pay a deductible or had to pay excess labor costs. They do not cover wear items like rotors, pads, tires etc. I expect if you mean third party (non-MB) warranties, yes you can expect to get and maybe pay less. MB warranties are also transferable with the vehicle, so it can help you compete with dealer vehicles if you can provide that peace of mind when you sell the vehicle on to a private party.

Check the coverage here, as it does change occasionally.

One thing that I see affects your response from an MB dealer is whether you have your routine maintenance done there. If you do they are more likely to go the extra mile, and even escalate questionable items to the regional manager, I once had rust repairs covered 50% on my two ML W163s after 6 and 8 years!
Dealer servicing is even a requirement now for the roadside assistance.

Wow! You guys have it good

Over here in the mother country my 2010 ML350Cdi BE ran out of MB warranty in September, I enquired as to extending the original MB warranty another year and of course its available.....for £2500...whats that about $4000 of your coinage and it is not a MB warranty, over here it is passed over to Mondial Assistance insurance warranty.

Better to buy another insurance policy here for about £800 (includes wear and tear), but I still do not trust warranty insurance.

ML320 CDI
I recently had my 2008 ML320 CDI for a big repair for over $2,000.It involves with a replacement of actuator motor (according to the tech,it could be called swirl motor,appx.$350+tax);mass air inflow sensor ($500+tax);and some valve ($200),and 8 hours of labor. Initially this is to fix the check engine light on and he found one code left and figured it was due to the fuel filter and this is for another $200 including labor and part.

My after-market warranty doesn`t cover any of these items. My advice would be: stay away from any after-market warranty, unless you pay something like $5K to get the most expensive one,but still worth nothing,in my view.

ML 550
I just purchased a CPO '11 ML 550 and added the EW for ~$2,700. The EW is from MB and will cover the car exactly the same as the manufactures warranty for an additional 2 years or 100,000 miles.

I thought that deal was great, and if you dont use the extended warranty you get a refund.
