Anyone replace the front diff bearings themselves????

Does anyone know if the '07 ML's were affected by the front diff failure??? I have an 07' ML 350 with 85000 miles but no noticeable growling etc yet . it seems to be a huge problem and I was reading the thread about the bearings being the issue, so I was thinking about replacing the ones in mine for added insurance. I've done work on differentials before but there seems to be little info on people working on these front diffs themselves and I was wondering if anyone can elaborate on how hard it is and if they've done it themselves. Does it have adjustable end caps, what is the backlash, does it use a crush washer or shims for pinion preload etc. I may consider doing it for added insurance. Gonna change my diff fluid out soon and see if theres any metal filings.
