I am driving a 2014 model ML350, at the very first day i remember the indicator shows only D, now it shows D1 to D7 dynamic when the speed changes.

When i using the paddle shifter it shows 1 2 3 etc, with M.

anyone knows what D1 D2 D3.. etc means? is it still on auto shifting?

My '14 BT shows the gear it is in, at lower speeds it holds certain gears which I assume matches the torque to speed. I really like it. As speed increases of course the gears go up. The selector has been put in D but it shows the actual gear. Hope this helps.

I met the similar situation and it horried me. I worried about whether the transmission has some problem. Thanks for your post.
