Alpine

I see Alpine has a direct replacement head unit with navigation for the ML 164.
I called them and they say only in Europe since they sell more cars there???
Did anyone upgrade their head unit/nav with an Alpine??
Thanks

it looks beautiful. No one on this forum changes out the head unit. I hear the fibre optics are a pain.

I put Kenwoord DNX-9140 and planning to get newer unit early next year (DNN with network/internet access).

I put a few posts here regarding installation and how to get parts but in general, it is not too bad. You need fascia (mask around unit and I got it from Europe (UK).

As for Kenwood, I selected them due to they are using Garmin maps which they are very good and easy to update

This year I put Focal amplifier as part of upgrade but I kept HK speakers (they are OK)

That is nice, do you have some pics of your setup?

Cheers

Nice, unfortunately most of the vehicles in the USA have the MOST amp. there will be an adapter for the MOST amp soon like the other MOST systems that use an Audio Gateway. Definitely a nice look to it. Wonder what the cluster says when the Alpine is plugged in?

ML63
I'm currently having an X800D-ML installed in my 63. Not going well!!

There is indeed a new adapter module out for cars fitted with the Harman Kardon system, but Alpine has admitted to me today that it doesn't even work. After I purchased it of course (!?). They're now saying that the X800D-ML kit simply does not integrate with ML63's period. Which is something I wish they had have mentioned on their fancy website advertising the units.

My installer is looking to replace the amp entirely (the only way we can get the system to work, as the primary issue is with the optical out amp), but it looks like I'll lose the center speaker channel as a result.

Does anyone have any experience with these units? Has anyone got the stock amp to work? If not, I'll be sure to share the full story once we get it up and running. Will no doubt be an awesome thing if it integrates with the car as advertised!

Thanks for your time.

I'm interested to see your rig as well. Just let you know APLINE has released an adaptor for the HK audio system.

Because of its price I suspect very few people have this unit. There must be loads of alternatives for half this money?

There's the Dynavin units available too, for a fair bit less.

I've not got one, I'm fairly happy with the stock system, with the ipod kit.

The touch screen is nice. A while ago I was told by Alpine that this was not able to work in the US. They couldn't tell me why though...
I don't know if they have US maps.....
Current stock screen seems archaic.
If there is an adaptor that works????
It could be Christmas in July........

I stopped by my local stereo shop and in less than 10 minutes I was streaming music from my iPhone6s+

http://www.viseeo.com/ugC_ShowroomIt...0&hidShowID=22

I had the Ipod integration kit but it was the old 30 pin. This plugs into the interface and connects to the phone to stream music. Dash displays track and allows for FF or RR from steering wheel controls.

Got one of those, works very well. If you have the Harman Kardon amp, you also need the fiber adaptor.

I replaced head unit w Alpine's. Looks and works great. Had to get the map from private supplyer, since they didn't have my region.

I changed mine to the Alpine unit, got rid of that clunky old factory unit that drove me nuts! and now I have a 9" touch screen, Garmin sat nav., map updates that don't cost $450!, DAB, up to date bluetooth. Spotify streaming, crystal clear reversing camera with directional cones and all with an awesome factory look. It has revitalized the car. The only shortcomings are I have lost the turn by turn on the instrumentation display and compass and while I would love that turn by turn, that's no big deal. Installation guys said it was straight forward.
If anyone has installed this unit and has the turn by turn working on the instrument display could you let me know what you did.
