Steering wheel trim peeling- replace?
The aluminum (looking anyway) steering wheel trim on the bottom spokes of my wife's 06 ML350 is starting to peel.
Besides looks, it is kind of sharp where it is peeling.
I did some looking and cannot find anything detailing those trim pieces at all.
Any way to replace without buying a new wheel?
It looks like the plastic pieces would come off, but I can't find anything that mentions that.
Thanks!!!

I ended up going to the dealer to get the parts. I paid $56 for them. You can order them online a LOT cheaper ($27). Search for part number 164-460-06-95-9E37.
That is the black version- not sure what other color part numbers are.
That part number shows up off a 2007 /8 GL320 steering wheel diagram. With that info you should be able to find other colors if needed.
To get them off, use a plastic trim tool and pry at the tip nearest the wheel. Just go slow and they will pop right off.

Curious - where did you see them online? I did a quick Google search and found some random sites, but nothing that really screamed "legitimate retailer," you know?

Tried it out and sure enough, they come off very easily. Just wrapped these pieces with the same wrap I used for my other interior trim pieces and am very happy with the results. If it starts peeling, I'll order new replacements.

Note that to get the top piece of door trim off, you've got to take out the door card and unbolt the trim from the back. The lower trim just pries off.
When you remove the lower trim you'll see torx bolts that need to be undone to get the card off.
On the front doors you need to access another torx under the door-lock buttons. Between the buttons is a plastic divider which can be pulled up a bit with your hands/flat head (from the door handle side). Then get a decent grip on it and pull out to remove the buttons.
On the rear doors there's a torx under the tweeter grill. You can use your fingers to "slide" the grill towards the back of the car and it'll pop off.
After undoing all torx bolts you can use a trim pry tool around the perimeter of the card to undo a series of clips. Start at the bottom. The top of the door card will need to "slide up" after you've undone all torx and bolts. Take care to not rip any cables attached to the door card's speakers & buttons.

When wrapping, make sure to leave lots of wrap to tuck in behind the trim - that'll minimize any chances of peeling. Go slow, and use a hair dryer or heat gun to apply light amounts of heat to the wrap if you need to it stretch across tricky parts/corners. Overall it's fairly easy to do.

Hi guys, great forum.
just a quick question about removing these trim parts on the steering wheel...
Kerunt you said they come off easily, do I need to remove the air bag part of the wheel or can I just prize them off with the airbag in place?
Cheers

I just pulled them off slowly with my fingers. But yeah that would work. They are held in with a little glue and some tabs. The new ones just slip in.
Pry off the edge away from the airbag.

ok cheers, I will give it a try.
I really fancy doing the door trims too but not sure I want to remove the door card.
Also, this is probably a common issue too...the leather material on the centre arm rest has all cracked and could do with being replaced/ repaired, what are the options?

I replaced mine too just a few months ago. Pull from the bottom first and after you overcome the adhesion from the glue it will come out pretty easy.
Here's what they look like form the back side (these have been painted black). Those long tabs on each one, cause a little bit of extra resistance getting them on and off, but I haven't had any issue with breaking them.
