2006 ML500
M-Class (W164)

I see a lot of information in this specific forum for the ML 350, 4Matic, or GL models.
I rarely see much on the ML 500. Were the 500's not popular? I bought mine in Feb. 2016. 164k Miles with a car fax. It had a fender bender or two. Had records of service non specific though. It's the sport model. Does not have airmatic. Does not have blue tooth puck, front or rear sensors or rear camera. Has off road, downhill package & is pretty much loaded with the comfort options. I've had to put a new (transmission sensor?) in because of starting & stalling. Of course the front differential bearings, left front axle because of outer cv boot crack, (probably could have just replaced the boot) but got axle for $50. Changed all air, oil & cabin filters, both differentials, transfer case, &.oil flush & change. The vehicle is almost mint. A little seat wear, unfortunately wood trim on doors have some cracks but that is all. Tires & breaks are in excellent shape. Might have a small power steering or master cylinder leak. We haven't been able to verify this. Burns some oil but this I understand is normal. Or it may have a very slow seepage leak on back side of oil pan. I don't find any oil spots on ground under car or notice any major oil spots on the under carraige. Don't believe it's a rear gasket or anything like that. $3000 for these repairs & normal maintenance items. I'm okay with that. Bought truck for $7000 had $11,500 book value according to lender. My wife & I really like our Benz. I'm thinking it easily will go another 100k miles & that will probably take us to our non driving years lol. I was just wondering what the consensus was out there. What y'all have to say?

Cant help. But what engine did the ML500 have. Is it like the ML550 with the 4.6 Bi-turbo V-8. I just bought a used 2015 ML350 and a week later found a 2014 ML550 sure wished I had seen it first.

You see less of them because they only produced them for a couple years in the W164. It's nothing to do with popularity; just numbers.
