Dreaded p-0410
About six weeks ago I got the wonderful CEL of death. Plug in my scanner and I get a p0410 secondary air pump fail. Right before it's due for safety/IM no doubt.
So of course I first check the fuse and it's fine and dandy. Pull the power to the pump itself, apply 12V to it and it fires right up. Throw the voltmeter on the power cable and nothing. All this through several cold starts. Swapped relay to the one above it since they're multi use and nothing. Order a new relay, replace it, nothing. Check relay socket (which should be downstream from fuse) with voltmeter, there's juice. Is my ECU toast? I can't imagine anything else as all wires look in tact leading to it from the pump.
We're now a month overdue on registration I've cleared the code 3 times so I don't have to look at it and it keeps coming back of course when the pump isn't running at all. I'm about ready to just trade it in on an X5 cause I'm sick of this problem plus my wife works right next to the highway patrol station and won't stop harrassing me about it. Local stealership never has a loaner and with holidays I don't particularly feel like paying someone hundreds to diagnose what they're going to charge me thousands to fix on a 8 year old vehicle.
This is the last straw on a string of always electrical problems with my last two MBs. Especially this M. Tailgate no longer lifts, stealership wants a grip for that. HK stereo doesn't come close to my C's older HK. Hundreds for a *******g bluetooth adapter that should have been built in from day one like my older C. Hundreds for Satnav dvd updates... and now it's depreciated faster than I'm paying it off so I'm actually going to have to PAY to trade it in. If I ever buy another MB it damn sure won't be an ML. Sorry, I've spent all morning in single digit temps trying to chase yet another MB electrical issue just so I can fix something that has ZERO freaking effect on how it runs to appease the tree huggers and license it.
