2010 ML350 check engine light - lost power and now will not start

Hello,

Forgive me if I’ve posted this in the wrong area as I’m new to the group.

This morning upon starting my truck, the check engine light came on. Later this afternoon while I was was driving with my family, out of nowhere the truck essentially lost any and all acceleration which then forced me to pull over to the shoulder of the road. As soon as the truck came to a stop it shut itself off and would no longer start. It is cranking but not starting. All the dash lights are illuminating but the engine will not turn over.

Fortunately I have CAA and was able to have the truck towed to the dealership for diagnostic testing in the morning. Might anyone here be able to shed some light on this? Has anyone had a similar occurrence and if so, what was the outcome?

You should have your own scanner so you are able to determine what the problem might be instead of having the dealership do it. Now that they have it, you are at their mercy.

sure, in a perfect world you are correct....but when you’re stranded on the side of the highway with your wife and 5yr old son and it’s -25 up here in Canada your options are all but limited. I don’t need sarcasm, I’m looking for insights related to my initial challenge from people who have encountered similar circumstances.

The point that Dundee was trying to make is that you own a complex vehicle with a lot of automation, and the underlying causes for the symptoms you are seeing cannot be analyzed without a scanner. The car's computer will tell you what is wrong, but you have to be able to talk to it and get it to spill the beans. You don't have to take the vehicle to a dealer for that, you can buy one and scan it yourself, but it has to be one that understands the myriad Mercedes codes. With that information, then someone can make a determination of what could be wrong.

When the dealer calls you to tell you what they found, ask them to give you the results of the diagnostic scan and post them here. At least we might be able to give you a 2nd opinion, even if you already have a good relationship with the dealer and trust their service department.
