Noisy Tailgate

Noisy Tailgate
A few weeks ago I did not see an electrical cord hanging out of my boot when I pushed the button to close the tailgate.
The tailgate made a krrrr noise and dit not latch, since then it make the krrrr noise for the first 2 seconds everytime I open or close it, it still work fine but it sound like gears stripping so I'm affraid something is about to break?

Any advice wil be appreciated.

When closing the tailgate, does it only make the noise when it meets the locking eye?

Good morning

No, it make the noise the moment the tailgate start moving.
Both when opening and closing so its the system that move the tailgate, not the lock.

Then it has to be the hydraulic pump where the spare tire is stalled..

Access it and while you are in the cargo area, remotely open and close the tailgate.

Thanks I'll check that, I'll just have to remove my drawer system.
