light sensor, drive to workshop

Re:2006 ML500
Hi,
After a month of a standing idle while I was away, after jump starting, with the ignition off, I found that I have a message "light sensor, drive to workshop".
Is there anything I can do, like checking the fuse or the like to make sure it is indeed the sensor. I believe it is hidden behind the rear view mirror.
The automatic option on the display no longer automatic.
Thanks,

In the future, whenever you will be gone for more that two weeks, the negative battery cable must be disconnected.

What does this mean? The automatic option on the display no longer automatic.

Which fuse is to do with this sensor. Would jump starting be the cause.
thanks

Screen can be displayed in 3 modes: Day, Night, & Automatic. The Automatic option no longer charges be the ambient light, it stays in whatever day/night mode the display was set to last.

Have a go at disconnecting the main and aux batteries. Leave it for an hour or so and connect them back up again. Maybe consider replacing both, if they are in any way suspect.

Don't use a jump to start your car! If you leave it get a "smart charger" and leave it connected. I use one all the time, using the positive terminal under the hood.

The light sensor on the windshield you refer to is not the problem at hand. The message concerns the Rotary Light Sw. on the dash.

All information concerning MESSAGES are on pages 159 and 420 of your Owner's Manual.
