Outside Mirror - Can it be fixed?
Someone struck my passenger side outside mirror.
I found out washing my car - the housing was cracked open slightly. Not broken, just where they join.
Mirror no longer adjusts. I could get one whine out of it.
Mirror glass is OK, no crack, not broken.
But the topside plastic cover... I pried it loose when I saw water underneath, but there was no way to put it back on - no clamps, nothing. How does this stay on?
Is there a way to fix this?
Scratches in the plastic - can I get rid of them?
I put the plastic cover on top of the mirror. How do I get this thing to stay on? How was it connected? It didn't seem to be glued on.

I just wonder if there's some kind of coupling in the mirror that can get dislodged by an impact, and can be reconnected. I had such a thing happening once with a 1983 300 Diesel.
How is this plastic cover attached to the LED light? Is is wedged in? Or pressed together, and when it gets hit it breaks and you have to buy a new one?

I saw that. I doesn't show how to get the mirror off - and they also bought a cheap Chinese replacement part.
Are these original parts or fakes?

It says OEM supplier... but is it really the Mercedes part?

UPDATE: it occurs to me that the mirror assembly I'm replacing was an aftermarket one, and the glass may not remove/attach the same as OEM. What's the part number for the correct OEM glass please? [my VIN is 4JGBB8GB8AA585667] This one on ebay doesn't look right from the back, and it's not auto-dimming:

I think if you tilt the glass all the way up or down, you will see a metal clip that will pull straight up or down and your glass will come off. I haven't done it for awhile so I don't remember if you have to tilt it up or down to see the clip.

yessir; VIN provided above. I’ve got the glass-less mirror motor installed now and it now folds perfectly, which the Kool Vue aftermarket one did not. I need to get glass in there ASAP so plan A is I figure out how to repurpose my aftermarket glass; plan B is buy on eBay, $30 or so.

Now my only concern is whether I have the housing securely assembled. My experience is that generally Mercedes “go together hard” so I expect a reassuring CLICK as moulding connects to housing but any click is very muted. I may glue it if the rain ever stops.
