Mercedes Benz ML350 4MATIC W164
Recommended Engine Oil

My question is related to W164 ML350 2009 model.
Car is on 115000 mile.
What viscosity, oil brand i should use for this car. Expensive one is not problem. Is there any choice of oil viscosity for high mile vs to new low mile car ? As far as i now recommended oil should be 0w-40.
for Mercedes Benz brand oil is identified with car vin number. There is no specific viscosity on MB oil sticker.

Call the parts dept. at any dealer with your vin# and ask them what Eng. Oil sheet # you should use. Then post back and I will supply the sheet # oils.

For gasoline engines: https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.5_en.html

For diesel engines: https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevol...229.52_en.html

"Which are distinctly marked with the label indicating the approval of Mercedes-Benz, e.g. “MB-Approval 229.51”. Labels referring e.g. to “MB 229.51” don't have an approval of Mercedes-Benz."

"Which are listed in the current MB BeVo. Only listed products are tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz."

is there requirement to use different viscosity due to car milage. My car is now 116848miles. Is 5w40 as mentioned in bevo ok ? Because, Bevo might consider thouse grade for newer cars. Any idea ?

You’re going to run into the fact that 229.51 is essentially obsolete and is replaced by 229.52.

As for viscosity, you’ll probably find only one: 5W-30. This will be fine year around in any climate on earth.

As far as i know 229.52 & 229.5 is diffetent sheet #.
It was stated in owner manual for 2009 year, 229.5 spec to be used & this spec is still available on bevo website. Btw, my car is gasoline & not diesel.

Thanks
