Poor headlight beams and strength

I am a little disappointed in the headlights on my 2009 ML320, especially the high beam. I have been spoiled by the (my opinion) excellent lights on my old C200. Does anybody have recommendations for the best bulbs to use to improve the throw of the ML's lights? I have noticed there are a range of LED and yellow/white/bright-white bulbs being offered in the market. I have been looking at some 55W Xenon blue/white halogens (which I think are probably whats in it now) and also some 100W 8500k white bulbs. I live in a rural area with mainly unlit roads...with lots of native animals and deer moving around at night.. I was thinking of a LED light bar, but would really prefer to leave the car looking as-original, Any recommendations please (for both the low and high beam bulbs) ?
