2006 ML350 P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected after Balance Shaft Replacement

Hi,
I have a 2006 ML350 with 125,000 miles. I had a manifold error code so I had a mechanic replace the intake manifold (broken lever internally), which fixed that code. Then I was still getting a misfire on cylinder 1.
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P2006 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed Bank 1
P2610 ECM/PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance

I replaced the camshaft position sensors, the camshaft adjuster magnets, and crankshaft position sensor. I replaced the spark plugs and swapped the coils.

The check engine light was still on so the mechanic removed the sensors, set the timing chain to 305 degrees and sure enough the stamps did not align. That obviously meant a bad balance shaft. Apparently it normally goes out at 45,000 – 60,000 miles on the 2006 ML350 & 2007 ML350. My mileage is 125,000

When the mechanic took the engine apart, the balance shaft gear had worn down to being smooth and there were tiny, tiny shavings of metal in the trough where the balance shaft rests and some slight groves in the trough. I had the mechanic get a new balance shaft and timing chain kit and flush the engine with oil, replace the oil pump and install the new balance shaft. I just got the car back out of the shop after several weeks.

Now, I still get a “check engine” and P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected. Sometimes the car is hard to start, and sounds like it isn’t getting fuel. The mechanic says he has eliminated all fuel, spark and mechanical reasons for the error code. Obviously he is missing something.

1. I’m wondering if there could be a MAF problem or
2. a broken/pinched wire in the camshaft adjustment wiring harness from when the intake manifold was installed if the (different) mechanic wasn’t careful enough and it broke the wire inside the harness.
3. Is there something else I should be looking at?
Any suggestions?

What have you done to correct the misfire on cyl. #1? You cannot keep running the engine as it could damage the CAT on that bank.

Code P2610 refers to a problem with the Instrument Cluster and codes must be read in the I.C.

Code P2006 refers to the tumbler flap.

The mechanic who did the job is responsible for these problems and it might require removing the intake again.
