OK, with the key on check both contacts on fuse 124 in the Eng. Comp. Fuse Box for 12v. If not, switch relay H with similar one in fuse box. Also check fuse 123 for same voltage.

What are the results?

Fusebox. Slots 123-125 at top right.

I checked my fuse box, and, unfortunately, don't see any fuses or places for fuses for spots 123-125. Not exactly sure what is there though. I also checked relay H. Coil tested good and verified with key on, that +12 is not being applied to the inputs to close the contacts. Picture of fuse box included. Also, swapped it with similar relay with no change.

Thanks

Fuse 125 is the arrow and 124 & 123 are descending below. 125 is cir. 30 and 124 & 123 are cir. 15.

With 125 at the top right, slots 123 and 124 are directly below it. I don't see any fuses in those slots (looking at the position, I don't see how a fuse would plugin). Should I check the voltage in the slots at the empty contact points?

Thanks

With the key on, just test the metal contacts for voltage.

Tested 123/124/125 for voltage with key on. I see 12 volts at 125 and 0 volts at 123 and 124.

Thanks

Do you have a test light?

I do not. I am currently using a Digital Volt Meter but can get a test light if needed.

Thanks

MLs have 5 fuse boxes and this tool is the quickest thing to use.

Are you sure that you are testing the metal contact? With the relay replaced, that circuit should show 12v. You do not have to remove the battery cable, just unlock the clip and turn it upside down and see if there is a wire connected to that cir. 15. Take a photo.

10 year of service is not bad at all.

Eis was def a simple repair.. Removing through the radio method and then just opening the case to solder the small piece back in place. All in all a few hours for a beginner and savings of half a grand. Glad overall though that you were able to get your machine back up and running. Did they say why the eis was not repairable?

They didn’t say what was wrong with it but when I was told it wasn’t repairable I had him send it back along with the new part.

I actually connected it to see if it still worked (intermittently), but it didn’t and a few strange messages displayed on the speedometer panel. I don’t recall what they were but it obviously didn’t work at all any longer so I assume a repair was tried and didn’t work.

I never opened it up either before or after so some component must have been bad. Maybe they shorted out something or maybe the circuit board had the problem?

Thanks, got it! Researching all the threads to be found on the subject point out the most likely cause is the broken off solder connection on the white component to the circuit board. Scroll all the way back to find a good link with pictures. Someone else noticed another connection was loose on their board as well.

Looking back, opening up the EIS for inspection would have revealed whether that was the cause. Plenty of cellular phone repair shops could do the small soldering if that’s what was needed.

In my my case, finding a good shop that had the equipment and knowledge to go either way with it (fix/replace) sounded good to me at the time. For me it was important to get a workable EIS back to avoid further delay and expense. Some got it fixed for as little as $18.75 and for some it was over $1100 aside from the tow and downtime.

To possibly save the $500+ for a new EIS, it would be wise to open it up first and see if some soldering just came loose. If that’s the fix, you’d be back in business for minimal time and expense.

Hope this helps someone. An educated consumer gets the best deal!

did you ever solve this issue? I’m having the exact same problem and symptoms on my 2006 ML

Open your own problem in a new post, and do not continue on this one.
