Angry ML 350 CV Boot Replacement, Or New Axle

While changing the front shock strut I nicked the CV boot. Though “small”, grease can come out. I tired a shade tree repair to get me by. Has anyone had experience with a more permanent fix, boot replacement, or will a new axle be in my future??

Left front axle, outer boot.

Thanks.

Try searching https://www.mercedesbenzstarparts.com for a boot kit. If you go the effort of installing a boot kit, I would make the small additional effort to replace the axle shaft entirely. Just my $0.02.

ML 350
Wanted to provide a final update on this issue to help other owners. I was able to use SooGoo and a bicycle tire patch to plug the nick, allowing me to get to my shop for repairs. I am pleased to say that the temp patch worked sufficiently such that I lost no grease on the 20 minute freeway/street drive to my shop. One thing I learned was that the old school black rubber tire patches appear to be no longer used. All I could find at Walmart and Target are thin, green self-adhesive discs. I was skeptical as to if it would hold. Glad to say that the patch did hold, covered with the ShooGoo. I added a second layer of Shoo Goo with 24 hours between applications and final cure. I found this method of temp repair on YouTube.

My local shop was able to pull the axle and replace the boot without needing a new axle shaft.

Removal of the axle was attempted by me, with no joy. Tech indicated it was a job getting it out. I have. 2011 ML 350, driven in MN/WI since new. They used an air tool to get it out. I was using a hammer to no joy.

Glad to have an OEM boot back on.

I hope this helps others.
