I have an 06 ML500 I need to replace the brake light switch but cant seem to locate it. I looked under the panel where my brake pedal is and did not see it. Can someone point me in the right direction

 

As of 2006 M/B to eliminate the switch and now the actuation of the brake lights are controlled by the brake booster.

It cannot be repaired and the only thing is to buy a new or used booster. It's a money maker for M/B.

 

Ok Maj let me catch you up my brake lights and my tail lamp doesn’t work. Only light that works is the brake lamp on my tail gate. I can’t afford to go get it scanned because my job was seriously affected by COVID. So I’m left googling reason why they’re not working. Is there a fuse or something else I’m over looking to replace?

 

Have you at least changed the bulbs?

 

Yes sir, replacing both tail lamp and brake lamp was the first thing i did. The tail lamps never worked even after changing.The brake lamp one of them worked perfectly,and the passenger side was kinda dim, then they both just went out as well. Only lamp i have that indicates I’m braking is the one on my tail gate,that one still works

 

Then you should have had a warning message in the Inst. Cluster. Yes or no.

Weren't there a "service bulletin" about the wiring on rear lamp clusters?

 

Yes there is, but only if certain codes must be stored and he does not have a scanner.

 

Nah, there's one about the crappy connectors on the light units. Some people hold it off for a while with a connector kit you can buy, Amazon do one.

Mostly it seems to be about corrosion on the tracks that the bulb holders make electrical contact with.
