06 ML 500 Engine Noise... Help!

Hey MBworld, I was hoping to get your opinion. I brought my 06 ML500 to two mechanics and they can't figure it out, one being local Mercedes in my area. Mercedes just wanted to replace the entire thing but I mean the car drive but has that noise.

Attached is a video but I don't have a clue what or where this is coming from. The car drives but its just an embarrassing noise in the video.

Any ideas what it might be or if anybody experienced this before? Thanks.

Loose pulley? Issue with the fan?

What did the mechanics do? Did they take the drive belts off and try each of the pulleys to see if one was shot?

Not 100% sure, they said they really had to break it down to figure out the noise and recommended that it wasn't worth the labor considering it was an older vehicle. I'm trying to see if anybody had anything similar and I can let the next mechanic know what to look for. Thanks!

I agree with Jayrawk. Remove the belt and start the eng. If the noise persists, then it is an engine problem.

If it disappears, then it is one of the pulleys.
