ML63 engine issue
I have a 2007 ML63, had it for a few years with full MB service history. Other than the head bolt issues fixed under warranty, it has been a trouble free car.
In December, CEL followed by a trip to the dealer. Thermostat replaced and good for a day until CEL again although running totally normal. A little longer to diagnose, however traced to a wire fault on a mass air sensor. Couldn't be found within the loom, so a new wire was run. From the moment I picked the car up from after this second repair it has not driven normally whilst cruising. At a set speed, any minor deceleration (small road dip, traffic etc) causes a slight bog down as the power comes off which then causes a speed decay of a few km/h. The cruise control (or me without the cruise) responds with a dab of throttle which causes the bog down to disappear. But by this stage you've shot past the set speed so the throttle comes off, bog down rinse, repeat, rinse repeat. Its more noticeable the faster you travel however does it at all speeds. There is no idle issue at all. Full throttle is completely normal with absolutely no miss UNTIL the power comes off. Light throttle is normal until the power comes off then it hunts away. I'm sure there is an occasion rumble (small backfire) from the exhaust. Been back to dealer twice, a computer program they forgot to redo after the new wire first visit, next visit they say a hairline inlet manifold crack which was repaired (Glued apparently, no further details on this other than its good to go.) None of this has done anything and the problem persists. I now get a ESP fault coasting down any significant hill whilst the car is bogging down/catching the speed.
I know there’s an AMG section, but this forum seems to get a lot more traffic.
any comments appreciated.

Letting off the gas and ESP fault while coasting. Wheel speed sensor?
Have you checked the rear boot area for water infiltration? X/W 164 models are known for this, through the taillamp gasket. Water in the rear area wreaks havoc in strange ways on all things electrical.

That’s some good insight thanks. Would I expect to see water in the fuse box area if there was a leak? I had the spare wheel out a few weeks back and that area was all dry.

A dry spare tire area is a good sign. Hopefully someone on the site with first hand experience in this will chime in.

Problem found....
Dealership or Indy mechanic can’t do the repair as they can’t get parts due to the world shutdown!!! Found a place that has the Centre plate and will Fedex to me!
Anyone know if the Centre plate bolts are single use and what the torque specs are?? I’ve got the manifold specs already.

And what is the part number of the bolts you just ordered?

This should give you the information you need in the link below. Read the thread in full and Post #20 has a link To the correct sequence.

I’ll be moving my throttle bodies, upper and lower plates of the manifold over to a new center piece. Any torque specs or instructions would be helpful.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

The bottom cover and the top cover (red arrows) are all ok , the Centre plate inside, that the throttle bodies attach to is no good (red circle)
MB only sell the whole assembly ($7500 Australian dollars) but can’t get it from Germany due to the world shutdown.
Ive found a Centre plate that I can use without having to replace the whole manifold, but I wondered if there was any torque specs for replacing the Centre plate. Does that make sense?

So in pulling the manifold, the grommet/pass through for the throttle breather broke. What’s really frustrating about this, it clearly has evidence of being glued on both the manifold and pass through grommet itself from a MB dealer!
Ive ordered another from MB but could take a few weeks with the current world issues.
this line attaches to each throttle body and is according to MB a throttle body breather tube. Other than breathing, can anyone give me an insight to how important it is? Ie should it have been glued!!!
