Help with 2011 ML350 Bluetec... codes
Hi all,
I bought a 2011 ML350 Bluetec about 3 months ago with 88,000 miles. I have been fighting the check engine light coming on, yet the codes always show the mileage of occurrance in the 40K mile range. I have reset the codes, they keep coming back or new ones pop up, but they are ALWAYS from much lower mileage timeframes.
Oil Changed 88,200 to Mobil 1 ESP 0W30
Note: New main battery at about 89,000 miles in March, added 2.5 Gal of DEF
Mileage 6/4 92,200 miles
NOTE: I have had to add about 8 qts in 4000 miles (about 500 miles per Qt. Not good). No obvious smoke and no leaks. Its not in the cooling system either. I have read a lot about the OM642 engine issues.
Here's the history over the past few weeks. ML350 Fault Codes Read w/ Autel Maxi-Diag
Had the 111500 “The Regeneration Frequency of the DPF is not OK” code multiple times during this time, always showed mileage at time of occurrence in the 42+K range. Erased codes at that time.
5/20
Code 111500 “The Regeneration Frequency of the DPF is not OK”

This may be a stupid question, but does the maxi-daig indicate if the codes are Pending/Stored/Permanent?
If the old ones from lower mileages are just the added value you get from the scanner, then obviously don't worry about them. I'd actually like to get one of those if it gives that level of insight into the code history of the vehicle.
Anyways, so which of the codes are current issues?

BTW, that scanner does let you reset the oil indicator when you change oil too.
Oh...Forgot to mention, there are no driveability issues (yet) and I am getting 29-30 MPG on the highway.

I've seen it said that if you have a CEL illuminated that the vehicle will not regen. Would you agree with that? Can whatever codes just be cleared and then regen attempted or do you have to have some warm up cycles from codes cleared before it will allow a regen?
#7
How do I know if its the DPF or something that should trigger the regen? Is there a way to initiate a Regen from my scanner or some other method? I do think its possible the mileage is being read wrong.

Thanks MajDundee. I thought wrong and figured it meant it was not going into Regen. I think this also explains the oil consumption problem...would you agree?
I am thinking instead of a new DPF, maybe I should do a DPF/EGR/SCR delete? What is you opinion on that?
TIA, Bill

Thanks, I think I found it hiding behind the air filter housing shown on the pdf with cat. Funny though that pdf seems to say 642 Engine...I believe mine is a OM 641 engine (3.0L 2011 Bluetec ML350)
Appreciate the quick help!

Well... Got the DPF sensor on order, due Friday. Couldn't not get one locally before I leave tomorrow on a 700mi trip back home.
The bad news.... The AdBlue countdown has begun. Its currently at 15. Why? The DEF tank is near full.
Here are the codes:
106100: "Stored & Current" The upper limit value for long term adaptation of the SCR Exhaust aftertreatment system was exceeded.
15FF00 "stored & Current" The lower limit of component B28/8 (Pressure Differential Sensor (DPF)) was dropped below/not reached.
16CE00 "stored" The test of the AdBlue system has not been carried out. Frequency counter 'possible engine starts' is active.
16CF00 "stored & current" The test of the AdBlue system has not been carried out. Frequency counter 'possible engine starts' is active.
111500 "stored" The regeneration frequency of the diesel particulate filter is not OK.
Vehicle runs and drive with no noticeable symptoms.
OK.... So, will I be start limited???? it says "possible engine starts"
Any way to clear that?
Advice?

Search on YouTube “GL350” and “adblue”. There seems to be a device you can procure that may help your current situation.
YMMV, read the comments for additional insight, not affiliated and all the regular yachty yack.
I would not trust the counter down to 0. Nothing stops it from jumping from 15 to 5. Don’t take that 700 mile ride in the truck until this is cleared or only if you don’t mind being stranded and towed into the closest dealer for a serious pounding.

Is there anyway to reset the counter with a scanner?

Final outcome
What was the final outcome of the DPF problem? Did the sensor correct the problem? 50 miles from home after a 3000 mile trip I had the same problem. Same vehicle. Current mileage is about 110,000 miles, One contributing problem I have is the turbo seal is leaking oil into the turbo. I'm losing about 1 qt. every 400 miles. Thanks.

Actually I don't have a sensor code. I have a 111500 code that the DPF didn't regenerate. Why it didn't is the question. I also have a 5025 code for CAN communication but this could be related to front speed sensors needing some maintenance (cleaning, adjusting?). Or -- could it code be related to one of the exhaust sensors? Yes, It would seem that a sensible first step would be to replace the DPS, being only $25. Thanks
