P0300 Stored without Check Engine Light

Hello,
I've been lurking for a few weeks while investigate the purchase of a W164. I've found one I might purchase, a 2011 ML350 4matic, 6 cyl petrol engine with about 100k miles on it. It is very well taken care of, no leaks, drives great, etc.

Only issue is I found a P0300 code with my scanner, even though there was no check engine light illuminated. Strange? I think this code can be thrown with vacuum leaks, low octane or low quality gas, low fuel pressure, spark plugs, wires, coils, even bad motor mounts. Perhaps it's possible the car sat for months and didn't start and warm up as it should, and the code was stored.

Only other issue was a auxiliary battery warning, which I think is due to the car sitting for a long time as well.

Any input is welcome, thanks!

So why haven't you not cleared the code?

I didn't provide that detail. Yes, I cleared the code and it appeared again.

Is it a STORED or PENDING code?

There is a possibility that the Check Eng. Light was rigged not to turn on the CEL.

Read highlighted areas in PDF.

I use the DashCmd with an OBD Dongle on my cars. The output indicates Status: Confirmed. I'm not sure if this means 'stored' or 'pending'. Thank you for this documentation!

Are you sure that P0300 was the only code that you found??

Did you read the PDF as to what the possibilities could be?

I took another look at the car yesterday and was able to clear the code. I was not able to get the code to come back after driving it for a bit. I think the misfire was likely due to old fuel or condensation in the tank as the car sat for months. I did take a look at your pdf, thank you for that reference. Is that from the Service Manual for the ML 350? Is this available from somewhere in this forum?

I'll be taking possession of the car today.
