Rear hatch won’t open
Help! I own a 2011 ML. The rear hatch would not open using the key fob or the controller in the side of the driver door. You could hear it trying to open or close, but it would not open or close. There was nothing stuck inside the door. Recently it will not even try to open or close. In addition the interior light stays on while driving the vehicle, because the hatch seems to appear that it’s open. We tried to go through the back seats, removing the Cap on the lever and opening the door manually, to no avail.
does anyone have suggestions of what I can do next? I’m hoping that if I at least got the back hatch open I could try to reset it. any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Use the key fob to open all doors, then crawl into the cargo area and remove fuse #40. Then see if you can forcibly open the tailgate using the outside door handle.

There is an emergency release on the inside of the tailgate. See if you can use that to pop it open. If that works, you probably need to replace the lock actuator/mechanism.

Yes I did see this you tube on this, this is exactly what my ML is doing , but the emergency release on the GL in the video works and it’s a different style than what’s on my ML, I am at wits end!! I am going to go to an Indi shop here in Ft Myers area! I really appreciate all the help on this form, especially Maj .Dundee!! Thanks again!
