CONTINENTAL CROSS CONTACT LX 25 vs Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II

Local shop is recommending both, price difference is $5. Obviously Pirelli has the racing pedigree but not sure how they are with SUV tires? Or can't really go wrong either way.

Did you read reviews on both? Tire Rack is a good place for that.

Continental:

Pirelli:

Looks to me that both are pretty comparable and good tires based on what I read.

I personally run Michelin or Continental, cant say I have had any Pirelli tire in the last years.

So did you put new tires on the ML?

Which tire did you go with?

Went with the Pirelli's, $940 for the set, so far quiet and feels smooth after the 3 mile drive from the shop.
From the reviews I read on both it's a toss up, sounds like you can't go wrong with either. I had Continentals already so wanted to be a daredevil and go with Pirelli's
Let's see how these go!

I'm late to the game, but will throw in my $.02c.

I have the Scorpions, but about 4yr old and say 7/32", they came on my pampered 2010 ML 350. After a 20 year break from Pirellis, I bought a set of P7 MkII last summer for my GLA, which work great. Pirelli products are ascendent in the marketplace.

I'm not into the 20" wheel thing, but I believe the Scorpions are making the best of it, with a whisper-quiet and smooth ride, just like my P7s. I only had the car a few days so handling is not something I can comment on, but they don't squeal. I am happy they came on my used car, which is RARE for me, I always dump the tires off new and used cars I buy and get whatever suits my fancy. Often I buy Nokian, which I might do again for the ML in time. I try to buy Goodyears too, they are often a good bet.

That being said, Continental has been dominating the market for the last 10-15 years, product wise. Think about former greats like Bridgestone and Yokohama, they don't have a good product line nor even any ringers. I buy Firestone often, not glamorous but they get the job done. Destination LE2 are a stand-out product.

Every brand makes good and bad models, but Conti has been killing it, imo. The LX-20 light have been the best HWY all season on the market, so I think if I had a choice, I would go with the brand-new LX-25...the Scorpions are a lil dated....which is my general preference, for the newest models.

I will browse the available Nokians and report back. What I was looking at was going to 18", I can conjure up a set of wheels easily and afaik 245/60-18 Nokians are only $450. I have a bad habit of 3 sets for all mine and wife's cars, I have to cool it so I will try to wait for 1.5 years, kicking it with the Scorpions for next summer-winter-summer and get a new set-up for the following winter. $1000 for a set of tires is insane, imo. I would flip the 20" set if it was convenient, but I might just have to keep them for the next owner with half-bald Scorpions, lol.

Good luck to the OP

Also late to the thread. I have had LX25s for about a year and they are great. Far better than the LX Sports from the factory. I got 45k miles from the factory tires, we will see how the replacement LX25s do.

You're lucky. I just found a set of take-off Destination LE THREE in 18" for $250, lol. I may buy them before I even have a wheel set or even get the car home. I'm in FL and heading back to PA soon.
