Muffler and resonator delete. My ML 550
Hey guys and gals,
i’ve come to the forum, perhaps to seek an educated understanding and understanding of the issues specific to the FOLKS who have an ML or a 550 motors from my W164. The exhaust being deleted, as well as the resonator and how CLOSELY related to the AMG sound or any real THROATINESS being achieved by doing both.
currently, both resonators were removed in place now are two 2 1/2” stainless pieces to the tips. Sounds goos. But,.... and that there is no droning, however, I am looking for a more consistent sound across the RPM spectrum and I see that guys who post videos of both the resonator and muffler delete really have a crisp clean crackling sound but I’m just wondering how loud is that in real life and inside the cabin and will it be obnoxious.
I am quite impressed with how the sound is with just the resonator delete but I want to achieve that higher end RPM noise as well as a much crisper cleaner it does seem a little bit muffled almost because obviously that’s what the muffler is for to quiet the engine noises down. I’m quite surprised by the fact that hoinebseesn to report any issues related to doing both! I’m comfortable doing the resonators I’ve just not comfortable taking out the little part of the exhaust that I don’t know it’s about 12 to 14 inches in length and I don’t know if it contains any secondary cats in there or what that piece is if I remove it worst-case scenario as I remove it don’t like the sound I assume I can go back to the same shop and have them put it back in correct ?
and the other I issue however is seems for me is that frankly it’s not clean enough, and my concern is that I would have long-term issues like O2 sensor issues, anything that would go along with doing something like this, and actually giving it a thought first. I.e., if there might be a sudden issue with bacjpressure, and so on, or even the mass airflow trying to adjust without having a muffler on what I can expect those sorts of things or if anything please let me know what your comments videos of your vehicle or pictures of what you’ve done.
Lastly, the pros of doing so. Don’t want to overlook I do have K & N filters in place too.
Just bear in mind I’m not planning to purchase any aftermarket system to do this because I’ve seen enough videos to know that it can be done edit it’s just hard to tell if I should do the muffler delete to sell let me know guys thanks

Mercedes AMG makes their products to reach a certain clientele my ML 550 is not an AMG and having on several in the past I am looking to make my vehicle sound somewhat similar so needless to say I don’t actually have to explain to you why am doing this if you’re annoyed by it too ****ing bad roll up your windows. I’m annoyed by seeing Biden stickers on peoples cars do you hear me complaining about that?

to which the pleasure is mine. But that’s not why I am doing it. It’s funny how when you post a question there is always someone who opines their opinion over the matee to facts. Resonabke for me to make my vehicle sound a certainty way and desire it. I have owned several AMG late models including an e55 with a klieman supercharger that was somewhat quiet too Didn’t care about an exhaust system then.

Noone is complaining, simply sharing opinions, what forums are all about. If you can't handle that, don't be part of it.
Might want to get an ML 63, so you have the right exhaust sound.
And then, .......... upgrade your Audio System, so you can't hear the exhaust roar anyhow.
Might have to get myself a Biden Sticker, just for you.

as far as vehicles go. I would rather not buy one right now. I’ve had one sold it. By far the W1 64 Hass to be my favorite vehicle in the SUV line up although they have made the nomenclature change to the GLE and GLs etc. , and I do really do like those so I may end up buying one but in the meantime I think I’m going to keep my ML 550 and do what I want with it.
So please from now on on this form if you’re going to add something to the conversation speak up and say something if not shut your mouth and Move on.

this decorum is not tolerable by myself nor people who are able to have access to others ideas. Not sure if you know this but, it would have nothing to do with my question which by the way if you don’t have anything to contribute and if I were you, I’d keep my mouth shut. And I said maybe I’m annoyed. Not I am. The point is your understanding of my choice to to what I went and to jofbkewfe me alone about it sooner rather than later is inductive of your adding to the conversation or providing a better way to do what is at.

So here’s an example of what I went. Similar motor in this S class if not same, but he goes AMG from cat to tip likely, idk. Sounds amazing.

Posting a video here for the straight pipe version after the deleted aforementioned.
Have not found a resonator that I think would provide that AMG sound but it may be a combo that is out therr and haven’t come across yet.
Sidenote* anyone notice the delay or lag when pulling out of first? Seems like it never happens that way normally. Oh well.
