COMMAND screen stuck on MB logo

COMMAND screen stuck on MB logo
Hi,
frequent listener, first time caller. My 2006 ML500's Command screen is stuck on the MB logo, audio works. I'm suspecting the Nav unit, since I don't get the compass in the dash when this happens.
The odd thing about this is that the screen comes on normally in freezing weather on the first start of the day, subsequent starts have the screen stuck on the logo. I have searched far and wide, found
similar symptoms, but am stuck. I have ordered the MOST bypass loops (male& female) on Amazon, but the connectors won't fit the fiber cables on the head unit housing the Nav system. Any ideas ?
