paddle shifters

no one at the dealership i use for service knows anything about these shifters.

basicly, my steering wheel has paddle shifters on each side of the steering wheel and they are not working. are they supposed to work or did they get included for looks only?
wondering in washington

Check to see if either of these fuses are blown.

Thankyou Major Dundee for the effort, but both fuses are good. i have purchased a new clock spring for the steering wheel, but not installed it yet. however, the indicator for the forward/reverse shifter position does not (seem to) have the ability to show gear range numbers if the paddle shifters were to function. as it stands now, i can only go forward or backup, i cannot access any lower gear range manually(only when the vehicle slows down will it go into a lower gear range). on the possibility that you have access to info., i will show my vin number, maybe you can determine if the shifters are even supposed to be there. vin: 4JGBB25E09A499436
Thanks again for your efforts.

Why are you replacing the Clock Spring, do you have a code stored for it?

Why did you post vin # ?

i will show my vin number, maybe you can determine if the shifters are even supposed to be there.by checking the build codes, which i cannot do.

i was told the clockspring might not be sending the signals from the paddles, so this is an attempt to see if the system responds properly. however, i am trying tp figure out why the paddles are there if they dont work at all. especially since the gear indicator does not seem to have an ability to show different gear ranges at all. and as i said before, there is no way yet discovered to select a lower gear range. so i am grasping at straws trying to figure this out. maybe you can!?

thanks again,

First of all the Clock Spring function is to keep contact with the Air Bag and the horn while the steering wheel is being turned. It has nothing to do with the paddles on the steering col. which are solely transmission components.

Do you have a scanner NOT A CODE READER?

i do not have a scanner, not even certain what that is, i do have a device which scans the modules and shows error codes. i hate to admit to so much ignorance, but wonder what codes would indicate the cause of my paddle shifters not functioning properly. so, if i acquire a scanner, what should i scan for? guidance would be kindly welcomed.

Did you just buy this car?

I's difficult to suggest a scanner because most of them are currently unavailable because of delayed shipping.

Try scanning all modules with the one you have.

When you post the codes, you must tell us what module they were stored in.

got my scanner hooked up, a Foxwell nt510 Elite, it shows no error codes. however, i was able to test the steering column shifters, and the left side paddle does not produce a signal when testing, and the right side paddle did have a positive test. so only one side is working of the paddle shifters. i dont know how to use the scanner well enough to find out more about the failure . does this help finding out the problem?

Did you check for codes in the Transmission Module?
