2011 ML 350 - High Idle at Start and it does not kick down.

All:

I have a 2011 ML 350 and when I start it - it goes to a high Idle around 2,000 PRM and when I put it in drive it does not kick down. I am not sure how to reset the idle. I noted in my search that older ML models could potentially reset do this by simply turning the Key to the start position without pushing it over to ignition. Then leaving it in that position for 3 to 5 minutes. The system would simply recalibrate or reset itself. But, this model has a push button start. So, I am not sure what the equivalent would be. Any help would be appreciated.

When the eng. is cold, open the hood, start the eng. and get out of car and see if the cooling fan is running.

Do you own your own scanner, not a code reader?

Sorry for the delay. I talked to my wife and she started the car and the cooling fan did not start. And car was idling normal. So, she it took it for a drive and everything appeared to be normal for the first several miles, then the car starting acting strange again and it was maintaining speed and then actually speeding up without the cruise control on or foot on the accelerator. She returned back to her parents house and the idle was running faster than normal. So, something strange is going on .. We thought is was just the Idle yesterday. But, it appears to be more than that.. Sorry for the random details but that is all that I have right now. I am going to have my brother start it and drive it in a bit to see what is his experiences are.. I would do this myself .... but, my wife travelled back home (no wear near a repair shop at this time) with the car. So, I am not present to help troubleshoot. Thanks for your patience on thread as I work through this problem. I will post my brother in law experience later tonight.

We have WeatherTech mats - I can have her pull them out. But they have been in place for several months now with no problems.

Just make sure they haven't slid up against the gas pedal. The only other thing you can do is check for codes. This could be something as simple as a faulty gas pedal, or more complex like an engine vacuum leak. A competent technician can probably isolate the fault quickly once they see the car.
