Special tool or kit to install expansion valve O-rings?

Hi folks,

I'm replacing the apparently not compressing compressor on my 2008 ML320. I thought it would be a good idea to replace the expansion valve at the same time. I am, at this point, rather stuck. I have removed the old O-rings from the evaporator, but I have no idea how to get the new ones in there. MB gives you a little hole through the heat shield to access the expansion valve nut, but otherwise the area of the expansion valve is difficult to reach, let alone get fingers in there to install a new O-ring.

Are there techniques that work for this, or maybe some special tools?

Thanks,
Paul

I found a solution: a piece of 1/2" copper pipe works for the smaller O-ring, and that same piece with a 1/2" coupling on it works for the bigger one. You put the O-ring over the pipe, the pipe then goes over the evaporator tubing, and you push the O-ring off of the pipe with a dowel or similar.
