Transmission B3 Brake Control Solenoid (VGS) has failed
I have a w164 2006 ml350 4matic with the 722.9. About a week ago, I got a check engine light and the code using xentry showed that it was "0798 - The internal electrical check of component Y3/8y7 (B3 Brake Solenoid (VGS) has failed."
At which point the car slams into reverse and drive from park and stays in limp mode.
I did drop the pan, swap out the solenoid and cleared the transmission codes using iCarSoft v3.0. However, every time I cycle the keys, the code comes back so I imagine it's doing the check when the key goes from off to on.
I do have a spare transmission I got from the junk yard that I can use for parts. (Which is where I got that solenoid from)
Any advice on next steps would be greatly appreciated.
1 tip for whoever ends up here... Don't overfill the transmission prior to starting the car. I'd do 5ish qts, start the car, cycle gears then add more once it's running.
I think I overfilled it from the beginning, so I ended up with blowing a seal I think. I have so much fluid draining out from under the torque converter...
