COMMAND DISPLAY PROBLEM

A couple of weeks ago, the COMMAND display started acting up in my 2008 ML550. The telephone information would sometimes display, but as of right now, only the Mercedes Symbol shows. I can turn the display off and on with the Power button. If a phone call comes in, the sound goes through the Command system but none of the phone control buttons work. And of course, I have no backup camera.

I have tried pulling and reinserting the two fuses in the right rear cargo area (#s 20 and 25 I believe - a 15A and a 5A). Do you think disconnecting the battery might work?

Does anybody have any other ideas? Thanks for any replies.

This seems to be a common occurrence. Search through this forum as well as X164 and E211. I've definitely read of people finding fixes to this in there somewhere.

Thanks BlackML550 - mine's navy blue.

I did try pulling the fuses on the lower left of the fuse box in the passenger cargo area. I even pulled and replaced several times with the vehicle running. I could see the display go out when I pulled the 15A fuse. That did not seem to work.

This morning, I started the car and the Command Display worked as it should! HOWEVER, subsequent starts during the day had the same frozen Command Display showing the Mercedes Benz icon.

Suggestion at the bottom of the post below to hold down the CD button for 10 seconds. Looking at some other posts it sounds like when the hard drives start going out to lunch, everything stops.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have pressed all buttons umpteen times, ejected and reinstalled all cds, poked myself in the eye, and sworn at it.

There is an evil demon at work here. The Command system will work one day and not the next. Oh, and on two occasions, the battery completely drained all on its own.

Ready for the loonie farm!
