218k miles on a ML 280 2007
Hi guys,
i love the ml, and recently(6 months ago) i got a nice deal on a 2007 ml 280. Great condition overall with minor scratches etc. Runs and drives as it should, no smoke, no oil below engine or in exhaust, no hickups. Has a descent service history if i can call that a booklet with stamps of services (not done in official mercedes service).
I don't usually worry about engine rebuilds on this type of car cuz i'm well aware that they go forever if taken care properly, but when i did initial service back in november the car was on 218k miles or 350k km. i changed everything, fluids, gaskets, turbo was a bit worn so i serviced that as well.
The service guy i took it to said the oil for this car should be on the max level on the dipstick at all times which sounded odd a bit but i went with it. Now i took it for a 6 month check up and he tells me i will need either an engine replacement or engine rebuild since its consuming oil. I'm assuming he is right due to the high mileage, but another mechanic told me it's normal and i should just add in oil (which in the past happened with my previous car) so now i'm on the edge a bit. To be precise when the oil was changed it was up to the max indicator on the dipstick, and now it's 1/4 lower from the max limit.
Anyone with experience in this high mileage ml to throw an advice or something?
Thanks,
Goce

Thanks for the reply and sorry, forgot to mention, the oil inside is 5W-40 and it has 3500 miles since november. I also read on couple of posts that it's normal to consume about 1qrt around 1500-1800 miles? if that's the case then it's almost right on spot.

So i followed the link from vesiadog and went through everything on there and found out that the measurement on the dipstick between min and max is about 2 liters. On my dipstick its 1/4 from the max level, so i'm guessing around 500ml + or - for 3500ml/ 5500km.
Thanks for the replies good people!
Appreciate you all!
