And when you say disconnect, you mean literally just unplug all power and data cables from them?

Do you know exactly where those disconnection points are? I noticed directly under the driver seat and then some under the carpet behind the driver seat. Thank you.

So I disconnected the radio, same issue. Other thing I noticed is when I turn the vehicle off and take out the key, the dash leds (odometer) stay on. I don't know what else to check. Any ideas?

Does anyone know of an affordable diagnostic scanner that will work on the 2007 ml350?

***Update*** I think I know what has happened. I thought I mentioned this in the very beginning, but I did not. When all this first started, after a heavy rain, we noticed a small pool of water on the driver side under the pedal area. Did not think too much of it at the time because it was isolated so we just cleaned it with a towel. After a little digging today, I peeled back the rug as much as I could under the driver seat and it is still wet, never fully dried out.
I think the the Central Gateway Module got wet and corroded or malfunctioning. Would everyone agree? How does water get into that area if all windows and sunroof were closed?

I know that if I want to replace it, I will have to take it to the dealer because they need to reprogram it specific to my vehicle. BUT, if I want to attempt to clean it first, does anyone have instructions or links to videos of the best way to get to that module so that I can remove it and clean it? Thanks.

IIRC there are sunroof drains that, if clogged, can cause the issue you're describing. Occam's Razor says you found the problem. If disassembly isn't too complicated, take the CGW apart and use electronics cleaner and care to get the crud out. Beware static electricity while tender bits are exposed.
Oh, and: Clear out the sunroof drains. A length of weedeater string of the correct diameter has been said to work well. Follow up with some carefully applied water in the sunroof drain area to make sure the drain is clear.
Sorry I can't point you to a disassembly vid, but most of the panels, covers, and insulating bits can be intuitively removed.

I tried to get to the CGW and got as far as removing the driver seat, but I could not peel the carpet back, am I supposed to cut the carpet to peel it back or am I missing some kind of fastener somewhere?
