Engine swap E350 RWD into ML350 4-matic Oil baffle question
I know that I need lower crankcase & bottom oil pan, along with mounts and exhaust manifolds need to be swapped over as well as PS, A/c comp, alternator ancillaries.
The 2010 E350 has an oil baffle (for windage?) to shield the crank. Part #5 below

Part #5 is oil baffle
These never seem to have been fitted to ML350s in any model year 2006-2011 based on my VIN searches of partsouq.
They are used on every E350 2006 to 2010 at least.
I'm inclined to remove it. Why might the E350 have needed it?

The E350 has the bulk of the oil at the rear, hence the pickup tubes are different.
In both cases the middle of the lower crankcase is only an inch or so below the spinning crankwebs and slopes accordingly back to the sump.
