lighting solution

Wonder if there is a xenon installation kit available now for the new ML that would update the halogens to xenon? I've seen these available through parts on other models inthe past.

Yes, I'm sure there are, but the optics are not optimized for the light source. It's likely to be less efficient and possbily glarey. You also don't get the steering function which is pretty nice.

I meant as an alternative to the halogen, of course they wouldn't be as good as the Xenons from the factory. If you were going to get an ML before next year, it may be a way to go.

Of course I know that's what you meant. I would rather wait a couple months for the factory setup. If someone has already purchased and looking to upgrade, it's worth a shot, but I've seen a lot of bad retrofits on the road and I don't want to be one of them!

How much was the kit, is it lights and ballast or just lights? Also can a untrained monkey install (me) or do I need a pro?

$40 on ebay

Hid bulbs and balasts. These used to cost $250 in 2002 when I last used them. My how costs have come down. As stated, these aren't perfect due to possible glare, but hopefully the projector type headlight will minimize that. I looked at the space last night and it is really tight. So we'll see how it goes later.

bulb is a little work to get to, but the bulb holder will not make the installation easy. I will have to rig a way for the bulb to stay in the socket since i wont be able to use the stock holder due to the wires that come out of the hid bulb. Then i am also going to have to cut an opening on the headlight cover on the rear to run wires outside of the headlight housing since there isn't enough room for all the components inside the headlight housing.

this is not a novice installation project.

Error message, but ordered a capacitor since this is a known issue in newer cars. Waiting for parts to arrive.
The kit requires lots of customization though. Not for a novice.
