That is the Edition 1 interior, which both MBUSA and MB Canada passed on. Notice how the wood wheel doesn't match the wood trim - bleh!
For Canada, MY12 ML63 will have designo leather standard (not quilted) along with the Dinamica (alcantara) headliner. Optional on 550. MY13 will bring full designo availability (all engines).

I find brown (maron) leather also most nicely. I have sat in such a ML on the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Wirlich very nicely. Has ordered in this Austattung. ML 350 BlueTEC. July, 2012, 129.000 Dollar!!!

I just ordered a ML550 of Jan production run in Canada, and does not see designo leather pkg as an option. Do you mean I can ask them to add this on?

the designo package was about 10000 dollars but that included many items that were included in the other packages for example heated rear seats,keyless,airmatic suspension etc...total cost for my vehicle before tax was around 74000..I have leased it for 3 years...wasn't sure if I wanted the ml as I had an e before..do like it but miss some of the e features ..however I drove the 2012 ml a few weeks ago and was quite impressed...very much e like so now undecided but still 2 years left on my lease...btw how do I post pictures or info on here

Just curious how you got this info. I just find it weird they plan out when packages are available (in this case two years in the future) instead of just making it available now or deciding later on they want to add it for a later model year.

It's called marketing strategy. If everything is rolled out at the beginning the product becomes stale after a couple years. They need to be able to offer "new and improved" to maintain interest. They also need time to develop new options or changes so there has to be a long term plan.

I see. That would just **** me off as a buyer (since I have this information) and I'd just be waiting for the right one! lol Oh well. Being in America, I never expect to get the "good" choices in terms of options and color and material choices. We only get "good" prices here.
I love the Designo brown Edition interior with diamond stitching. Like someone said earlier it reminds me of the 08+ 65 cars as well as other high end luxury cars. It's quite a step up from the first model year MLs back in 98/99!

Yeah but if you absolutely must have leather covered dash and door panels and an alcantara headliner, then this is cheaper and has fewer headaches than doing it aftermarket. If given the choice, I'd go Designo every time.

I have a 2005 e55, and every time I think about trading it in or selling it I love it too much and do not. It has spoiled me as if a car/truck doesn't have that alantra, well I just don't like sitting in it! was considering this ML as my next daily driver and then rolling into a 2 door sports car, letting the e go to the next appreciative owner. I too find it annoying that some of these better interior options aren't allowed on "base" cars - that cost 70K US by the time they are optioned properly. Seems like BMW and even Chevy have leather dash and roof upgrades these days!

In the US there is currently 2 "special order" finishes for the interior a black poplar and that natural ash. There are also some Black and tan, black and grey seat options that are really trick. It is a 1 price +-250 upgrade. Many dealer's don't know about this so ask and you shall find.

I think I ended up ordering options for a total of close to 60.000 $ , with a total of about 240.000 $ .
Does not make sense not to go for all options when the starting price for a ML350 Bluetec is 165.000 $ (in Norway).
