Uh, seriously?
Mass air flow sensors, engine management control systems (Hitachi, for instance), back up cameras on Audis and Volkswagens. Most Japanese manufacturers have taken major production hits this year because of disruptions, and European and American auto makers have also been affected. The list goes on and on and on. The Honda plant in our state recently announced a 50% production cut back until the end of the year due to parts shortages. Yes, that's a 50% cutback in production.

"Japanese parts suppliers are facing the same issues as Japanese car companies. Plants have been damaged and power is in short supply. Car companies use a complex web of parts suppliers, and simply switching out one component for another isn’t an option. Even if Japanese assembly plants start up again, they may not be able to get the parts they need to build cars. The parts drought could continue for some time. Ten Honda parts suppliers are located in the evacuation zone around the Fukushima power plant and are unable to enter their plants. When they do regain entry, some suppliers say it could be eight weeks before they are at full production. IHS Automotive says that half of Japan’s automotive production will still be shut down in May.
Japanese automakers aren’t the only ones that use parts from Japanese suppliers. Japan is responsible for 20 percent of the world’s semiconductor production, so car components like computers and dashboard displays often rely on Japanese suppliers."
The ripple effect continues worldwide. Caveat, M-B has not given any information on the reasons for the lighting package delay, AFAIK. I requested this via email and got a noncommital response.

A brand new X5 or X6 with all the toys I wanted was available without a hiccup ...yes HID's as well.
As for Audi...no issues there either on an A6 or Q7...
Mercedes... No E Classes anywhere with 4Matic, P2, Pano, and AMG Rims.
Same for looking for an ML 350 with P2, Running Boards, and a Pano..I won't get into the lighting package as its been beat to death...
The reason I'm still with Benz?
They took my truck back 7 months earlier with the exception I take another one. I was over my miles and figured, get out now while I can and grab a brand new 2012. Easier said then done.

There is a plant in Japan that "harvests" the Gas required in the Bi-Xenons. Apparently that plant had some damages or what not. I've heard two stories now. 1) Plant was damaged. 2) The raw product needed to produce the gas was EDIT: in short supply due to flooding in Thailand.

2012 production delay
I also had an ordeal getting a launch P2 2012 ML. I finally got it on Oct 19, and it had a Sept build date, so the delays made me insane. The reality is that the dealers know NOTHING about production. One day it was in NJ, the next it was still in AL, and back and forth. I had to call MBUSA, scream like a madman and wipe the floor with someone before I got higher up the management ladder.
A senioir VP got my answer and got my car pushed through. And the problem was the climatized cup holders. I was recently at a party where someone who also was trading a 2009 took a new GL instead of waiting for a 2012 ML P2.

I have it from a reliable source that the delay has nothing to do with shortages or plant damage, but another internal MB issue. Doesn't really matter what caused it, though, the wait is hard.

2010 ZR1 2011 JGC Overland 2013 ML63 on order
I heard that the ML63 production is getting all the bi-xenon headlamps available until supply resumes so there won't be a delay on the ML63 release.

2013 ML550: Paladium Silver, Brown Satin Ash
I was just told today that MB has run out of ALL leather for any next builds of the ML550, which would have been November 2012. Now I'm looking at MAYBE December. And this shortage applies to designo as well.
I'm starting to reconsider going back to getting an X5....at least I will not have to wait so long on a company that can't get it's sh*t together.

2013 ML BLUETEC JULY 31
For me I think that's the problem. Its stuff is together and is overselling itself. So many want EVERYTHING and it price is so "together"
Don't lower ur dreams man I'm waiting since May 2011 order of a MY12 that I delayed for a "MY way" 13 and it will be Amazing.

No Delay!
When I placed the order in May, I was advised the build date to be August 24. Today I was advised it is built awaiting shipment. And that includes leather.
Just a pity the shipping takes so long. Dealer expects it in October 22.

Dealer unsure about my ML500 delivery date
Hi guys, I placed an order for a new ML500 (ML550 in USA) back in June also. We haven't even seen the V8s here yet (except the ML63), so far only the ML250 BT (which I don't even think the USA gets), the ML350 BT & BE. Was initially told that mine wouldn't be built until August, now they're saying October, for a possible mid-late December delivery. I really want it for Christmas as we have a huge road trip planned. It's frustrating, but I know it will be worth the wait!!
I also find it very interesting that your MLs are specced so low compared to ours. All the MLs here, except the entry level ML250, have Bi-Zenon lights as standard for example.
You also might be interested to know my new ML500 is going to cost me about $140K AUD!! I jumped on the MBUSA website and priced up the same car and it only came to around $80K USD. It's pretty normal here in Aus though, we pay heaps more for imports!
Safe travels everyone!!
